This Acupressure Technique is as Good as Gold for Stopping Hiccups Fast!
We all get run-of-the-mill hiccups from time to time, and each of us has our favorite home remedies for getting rid of them. Below is my all-time favorite hiccup remedy I rely on when common hiccups arise! I originally learned this from friend and fellow acupuncturist Andrea Moss LAc., and have used it ever since. It’s my pleasure to pass it on to you.
If you are suffering from chronic hiccups, it’s best to call or book an acupuncture treatment online at Humanity Acupuncture, as we need to address possible root causes behind your chronic hiccups utilizing acupuncture and biochemical nutrition.
Hiccups From a Western Perspective
“Hiccups are repeated spasms of your diaphragm paired with a ‘hic’ sound from your vocal cords closing. Your diaphragm is a muscle under your ribcage, separating your chest and stomach area. This muscle is an important part of the breathing process. It moves downward when you breathe in and upward when you breathe out.
Two things happen when you hiccup:
1) Your diaphragm pulls down between breaths, making you suck in air.
2) The glottis (space between the vocal cords) closes to stop more air coming in.
These actions make the ‘hic’ sound of the hiccup. The process of the hiccup happens very quickly and you’ll usually return to normal within minutes to a couple of hours without treatment.” (1)
My All-Time Favorite Hiccup Remedy.
In the photo below you will notice 2 dots in the middle of the eyebrows.
1) Apply steady, comfortable pressure with your fingers to BOTH points at the same time and hold.
2) While continuing to hold the acupressure points, take 3 slow, steady BELLY breaths in and out, bringing the breath down into your Solar Plexus ( your stomach should gently expand out as you breathe in). If you are not sure how to belly breathe, there are many tutorial videos on Youtube.
I can’t tell you how many times I have been on the second breath and was like “ This isn’t going to work this time” and by the time I finished the 3rd breath the Hiccups were GONE!
Acupuncture is great for so many conditions. No matter what’s bothering you, don’t hesitate to call, email or book an appointment online. Humanity Acupuncture is here to help you get your health back on track, so you can get back to living!
